I'm
back online. My last update was from about 6 years ago. My,
how time flies.
During
that time, I've fathered two children, the youngest of whom
is turning four next week. I became a teacher. Needing a steady
dayjob to allow me to make some money and come home to spend
time with the family. I have spent over six months away from
home in Toronto, but with my family having wintered in Costa
Rica and Israel.
Now,
six years later, I'm still teaching music for preschoolers
at Rainbow Songs. I've started other projects in my community.
But I haven't really been very active in improvisation, adult
listening songwriting, or playing gigs for the general public.
I
lost this URL to some other Joshua Engel for a couple years,
but then it expired and I bought it back. And put the old
original site back up in its place. I'm not really sure why.
I've even legally changed my name from Engel to Skye Engel.
One
afternoon I got a call from someone looking to book my band
for a wedding and he found my name on some website listing,
and wanted to check me out. Curious, I googled my own name:
Joshua Engel and I learned that there are several guys on
the web doing awesome looking things and all sharing my name.
If
you wikipedia me you will find some other Joshua Engel who
is a hotshot award winning country music star from Texas.
But in the past that was always my name with nothing to distinguish
me from the others. So now I have the Skye. I share the same
last name as my wife and children. But still I live on joshuaengel.com
And
I ask myself. Why do I really need this site? I've done just
fine without it for the past 6 years. Do I really want to
blog? It's not that I don't wish to share my every moment,
but in the age of social networking, do I need to put my thoughts
on a separate website? I'm not so sure. I don't even really
update my myspace page. I'm not a constant tweeter, or even
a daily facebook status updater. I don't think that's what
the page is for anymore. So what is the purpose of joshuaengel.com?
I'm
a multi-faceted individual. I hope that this site will grow
into a home for my music, photos, artwork, and videos, if
I ever get around to archiving those. The transitions will
be slow. But it will come.
